well, i went to watch the F1 race the week before last n s usual my laziness got to me so i didnt' blog about it until now. :p
my dad n i pushed off from the house at 9.35 am. the actual race was only at 3. the fear of no parking made him push off that early. we reached Sepang at 10.15 am i think n but we got lost. a dumbbell in police uniform told us the wrong direction and made us go a big round b4 reaching the circuit. by the time we got there, the place was aledi crowded with supporters.. mainly Ferrari. there were other supporters as well.. like Renault, BMW, McLaren and Super Aguri (all Japanese team). a couple of Japanese men showed up in their traditional costumes and wooden slippers. my dad parked his car at the petrol station opposite the circuit which cost RM 20. if we were to park near the circuit, it would cost RM 50.
it was quite a walk up to the circuit.. since it is on a small hill. when we reached the foot (sellers were selling ear plugs for RM 5 per piece), we found a shuttle waiting there to take us up. my dad n i were the only chinese in the shuttle.. the rest were 'mat sallehs'. 90% of them were clad in Ferrari merchandise. well, i had a red cap on :p
the atmosphere at the circuit was totally different from A1. BMW n Mercedes were displaying their best cars. the teams official merchandise can be seen selling everywhere. but, they were extremely expensive.. the merchandise was really only meant for 'mat sallehs' not malaysian to buy. a Ferrari cap cost up RM150 a piece. it was just plain chilli red with a Ferrari logo shirts cost about RM300. ticket holders bearing the team's name was RM 75 to RM90 1. haih.. poor me. even mineral water cost RM5 per bottle. what a bunch of blood suckers. 'potong' u in any way they can.
on our ticket it was printed ' NO FOOD AND DRINKS ALLOWED' of course i knew that food would be expensive so we packed our lunch and a big bottle of mineral water. those guards checked my bag at the entrance n they confiscated my bottle. haih.. had to buy from inside.. the lucky thing was, they didn't notice 4 packets of juice and food at the bottom of my bag. hehehe..
talking about sneaking food inside, i wasn't the only 1. a Japanese man n his family who was sitting just 2 rows in front of me brought a big ice box and a large packet of ice was inside. s soon s he sat down, put the ice inside and brought out at least 5 or 6 cans of 7up from his many pockets. my neighbour was a malay man, his wife n 3 kids. the merchandise he bought can cost me at least 2 months of my salary. tshirts n caps for his kids, kimi raikkonen cap, Renault and Ferrari tshirt for himself and a ticket holder for his wife. honestly i wonder which team is he supporting.
man, the security was tight. not only the main entrance to the grandstand tight, even the entrance to our seats was guarded. we had to show our tickets when ever we went in and out n all our seats are numbered. wasn't free like A1 where we were allowed to become nomads.
the very first race was the Formula BMW Asia race or rather the mini F1 race. hehehe. they were using smaller versions of the real F1 cars. then came the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Second Race which was 10 laps. wonderfully coloured cars.
the 1 i really looked forward 2 was the Drivers Track Parade. the drivers were driven slowly around the track to meet everyone. they had their names on the cars. Pak Lah was in the first car. some1 somewhere behind me shouted 'Pak Lah kurangkan harga minyak' hahaha s if Pak Lah would have heard. seeing the drivers live was really an exciting thing. Michael Schumacher got most of the cheers since most of the clad in red supporters were fans of him.
honestly the main race was a major dissapointment. the sound from the engines were so piercing. they move so fast and i could barely hear the commentator. by the time the drivers reached the 20th lap, i was lost n my ears were starting to hurt. even with ear plugs, the piercing sound penetrates it. i finally couldn't take it n we were leaving by the 35th lap. we weren't the only ones leaving.
we couldnt' leave yet. our car was sandwiched since we parked like sardines in a can. we waited nearly an hour and a half just to leave. n s usual jam on the way back. but there was n unusual massive jam on the elite highway. the cause: an accident. not just any accident between 2 cars. it was just a kancil.. that kancil was smashed up really badly. like there was no difference between the back and front of the car. the police blocked of 1 lane, and the plus ronda was there to divert traffic. ambulance and the bomba ppl were also there.
finally i reached home at 8.00pm.. what a day.. hehehe :p
